KAUA`I MOKIHANA FESTIVAL HULA COMPETITION

GENERAL RULES

GROUP WAHINE & GROUP KANE

(Ages 13-54)

Kahiko

  1. Halau must enter both Group Kahiko Nei and Group Auana.

  2. Dancers must use at least one traditional implement.

    BONUS POINT OPPORTUNITY

    1. Halau can receive 2 additional points per each additional implement.

  3. Halau must do a hula ka’i and hula ho’i.

  4. There must be a minimum of 3 dancers and maximum of 15 dancers.

  5. Choice chant must be 25 years or less.

BONUS POINT OPPORTUNITY

  1. Kaua’i Competition Chant- 1 point.

  2. Kaua’i Composer- 1 point.

Group Auana

  1. Halau must enter both Group Kahiko Nei and Group Auana.

  2. The song can be in Hawaiian or Hapa Haole.

BONUS POINT OPPORTUNITY

  1. Songs 10 Years or less – 5 points

  2. Songs 25 Years to 11 Years – 3 points

  1. There must be a minimum of 3 dancers and a maximum of 15 dancers.

  2. A maximum of 5 musicians and NO ELECTRICAL INSTRUMENTS are allowed.

  3. Dancers must use at least ONE implement.

BONUS POINT OPPORTUNITY

  1. Additional traditional implements- 2 points.

  2. 1st non-traditional implements- 3 points. (ie: fan, maracas)

  3. 1st NEW non-traditional implement- 5 points. (ie: Styrofoam)

  4. Each additional implement- 1 point.

6. Group must do a ka’i and ho’i.
