Annual Youth Event Honors Queen Lili`uokalani
Students of the immersion and bilingual Hawaiian programs compete each year for prizes and recognition by participating in the annual Kaua`i Mokihana Festival Eo, E Lili`u song contest. Held at the Kaua`i Community College Performing Arts Center Tuesday, 9/20/05, the event honors Queen Lili`uokalani by performing her music. Songs must be from the “Queen's Songbook” or a song written for or about the monarch. All songs must be performed in `Olelo Hawai`i, Hawaiian language with no amplification. Results are listed below:

Donors for this event include the Queen Lili`uokalani Childrens Center; Lily Yamamoto; Mrs. David Hanna; and Aunty Maria Hickland of Mele.com. Also, a donation of pounamu New Zealand greenstone was made by two instructors, Ms. Rama Kete and Mr. Mikaere Taitoko from the Waikato Institute of Technology, Hamilton, New Zealand.
